Biography of Ravner Salinas

Victor Ravner Salinas was born and raised in Troy, Texas, a farming community outside of Waco. Beginning guitar at age 10. His largely self-taught training began with Sex Pistols and Ramones albums. Eventually he began to "greatly despise all music with anyone screaming" and immersed himself in Spanish guitar. (however his debut CD is dedicated to Sam Cooke & Johnny Thunders)

Leaving school at 17 he eventually relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he earned his Bachelors degree in Mass Communications from Towson University. Originally he was headed for documentary filmmaking. By graduation time he had produced three short documentaries. In Summer of 2000 he worked behind the scenes for the Independent film The Duo, where he worked as Location Sound tech, in addition to playing a character in the film. One year and one final independent film later (Yorick fool of Denmark) Salinas received his Union card. Union Card in hand he worked as a construction laborer for the films The Alamo, Second Hand Lions, Man of the House, and The Ringer. He went from creativity, to mixing paint and mud for Hollywood construction sites.

Needless to say Ravner & construction labor did not last long. Constructions loss was music's gain. He quit and resumed his playing. Working where and whenever he can, music has been the substance of his life. Both a cross and a salvation. devotion to the classical guitar is practiced and lived. 2005 proved to be a good year for Ravner creatively seeing the release of his Self Titled CD, as well as the collaboration with the  vocalist Andrea Cortez. Together they work to perform the folkloric music of Mexico remaining true to its original beauty and context. Prelude, seating, entrance and postlude, rates will be provided at the initial meeting. Events outside of Austin, travel time is 45.00 per hour. Sound reinforcement included with this package if requested. Available Gear includes:

  • 2 Yamaha main speakers

  • 1 Powered floor monitor
